When hiking and fishing in Colorado and the Durango area, there are several important things to remember. The weather changes very quickly, it can snow any day of the year, and you need to be prepared. To be properly prepared you should have clothing and equipment to deal with the elements and any situation you may encounter.

There is an old proverb in the mountains; cotton kills. Cotton is a great fabric to keep you cool on a hot day, but when it gets wet and cold, it is very easy to get hypothermic even in July. The only way to be safe is to wear layers that provide protection from the elements, insulate, and wick moisture off your skin. Be smart. Dress properly when you fish!
